Packing Tips

1) Start pre-planning what you want to take a week in advance to give yourself plenty of time to gather it all together and wash your clothes if you need to.
2) Look at a weather forecast for the area and take into account the activities you'll be doing. If you're going to be doing more intensive and engaging activities or more outdoorsy things, pack accordingly (hello Norts and t-shirts), but if you're just going to be doing walking and touring, feel free to pack all the Lillys your heart desires.
3) Regardless of where and when you're going (even its Phoenix, Arizona) pack a sweatshirt, jeans, a long sleeved t-shirt and warm pajamas. Seriously.
4) Planning your outfits makes getting ready in the morning so much easier and helps curb overpacking- not that that's ever going to completely stop. Because like a good Boy Scout, you should be prepared.
5) Take pictures of said outfits, especially if you're going to be re-wearing clothing. Again, easier.
6) Have something to store your dirty clothes in to help keep them separate from the clean clothes. Shoe bags work great!

Happy travels!

Summer 2013 Trip: Packing

I'm going on a ten day excursion with my family up to North Carolina and Virginia tomorrow morning! Our flight leaves at 6:15 (ew) but I'll be visiting Wake Forest and Washington & Lee while I'm up there so that makes the early flight worth it.
I actually did really well considering how long we're going to be gone. I'll be wearing all of my shirts and bottoms twice (except for my popover and jeans- those are just in case its cold- bad experience in DC last summer). I didn't take a picture of my Vera Bradley toiletry bag but if you travel somewhat frequently, it is a great investment. It also matches my duffle, which was a pure (but happy) coincidence. I've traveled with it 4 times since I got it last summer and its incredibly convenient and the light pattern hasn't gotten dirty! It does take up a lot of room (especially combined with my sneakers, hence the suitcase and duffle) but it holds all of my toiletries, which I would say is a pretty good trade-off.

On a side note, I'm so so so excited for The Civil War's second album in August. They're tied for my favorite band with The Gaslight Anthem.

Jolie & Elizabeth Jackie Dress

Photo session in front of the venue with my friends, humidity and all.

One of the underclassmen in my section had her QuinceaƱera on Saturday and I had so much fun! And of course, I needed a dress for the occasion and I'd had my eye on the Jackie dress for a while so I purchased it. The dress was seriously perfect- no tugging on a strapless dress on the dance floor. The seersucker kept me so much cooler than a regular cocktail dress would have and my mother's pearls were the perfect accessory for the lady-like Jackie. I initially ordered the yellow because that was the only size an XS comes in right now, but I really love the color and I can't wait to wear this dress again!
I seriously couldn't rave about Jolie & Elizabeth enough- all of their dresses are made in America and the seersucker fabric is incredible quality (I'm looking at you, Lilly January Skort). I will definitely be adding more of their dresses to my closet as soon as possible.

My Wardrobe Must-Haves

Pearl Earrings: Is an explanation really necessary?
J. Crew Striped Jackie Cardigan: Adds a nautical twist on a classic.
White Oxford: Great as a stand-alone or under sweaters and cardis.
J. Crew Tippi Sweater: Perfect for (almost) year-round wear.
Fossil Bag: Looks good and holds everything I need.
J. Crew Chinos: Wearable in every season except winter.
J. Crew City Mini: The red is a really fun color to play around with.
J. Crew Popover: My mom knows what's up.
Sperry's: The most versatile and best shoe ever.

I figured a good official first post would be a peek into my closet. Notice the copious amounts of J. Crew.

Obligatory First Post

Every blog needs one right? I'm Caroline, I live in Texas, my favorite shirts are the collared kind, my favorite snack is home-grown, homemade pickled okra (thanks, Mom!), and my favorite season is New England Autumn.
