1) Start pre-planning what you want to take a week in advance to give yourself plenty of time to gather it all together and wash your clothes if you need to.
2) Look at a weather forecast for the area and take into account the activities you'll be doing. If you're going to be doing more intensive and engaging activities or more outdoorsy things, pack accordingly (hello Norts and t-shirts), but if you're just going to be doing walking and touring, feel free to pack all the Lillys your heart desires.
3) Regardless of where and when you're going (even its Phoenix, Arizona) pack a sweatshirt, jeans, a long sleeved t-shirt and warm pajamas. Seriously.
4) Planning your outfits makes getting ready in the morning so much easier and helps curb overpacking- not that that's ever going to completely stop. Because like a good Boy Scout, you should be prepared.
5) Take pictures of said outfits, especially if you're going to be re-wearing clothing. Again, easier.
6) Have something to store your dirty clothes in to help keep them separate from the clean clothes. Shoe bags work great!
Happy travels!
